New Federal Prosecutor for Financial Crimes Unit

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia announced that he has hired Jasmine Yoon for the Financial Crimes and Public Corruption Unit.

Yoon joins an expanding Financial Crimes and Public Corruption Unit, which has grown by 50 percent since September 2009. “My office has taken a number of steps this past year to become very aggressive in fighting financial fraud, including hiring additional prosecutors,” said U.S. Attorney MacBride. “Jasmine not only has extensive white-collar experience handling complex cases, she also knows this court as well as many of our seasoned prosecutors. We’re looking to her and others to help build the financial fraud caseload in Alexandria.”

Yoon spent three years as a white collar and securities litigation group associate at Crowell & Moring, LLP, in Washington, D.C., where she was named Pro Bono Associate of the Year. During private practice, Yoon assisted with multiple internal investigations and represented clients before the Department of Justice and the Securities and Exchange Commission. Yoon clerked for United States District Judge James C. Cacheris in Alexandria, Va., and spent a year with the Buckingham County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office during law school. Yoon received her juris doctorate from the University of Virginia School of Law. She received her bachelor’s degree in international business and culture from the University of Virginia, where she was named a Jefferson Scholar.

Fitzgerald Lewis, who regularly defends White Collar Crime cases states that he has seen a steady increase in financial fraud and crime cases brought by the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Eastern District of Virginia, and he expects a further increase in such prosecutions.
